Art Market 2013 Wed 10th July – Sun 21st July 2013

Kuopio passenger harbour and Kallamarina warehouse

In addition to the traditional programme, the fourth Art Market will offer locals and visitors theatre, exhibitions, unique products for sale, and opportunities to do yourself.  Spread over 12 days (10th July – 21st July 2013) between 14.00 and 20.00, the event is packed with art and culture. This year’s special themes include theatre, craftsmanship, and music.

Performances at the harbour stage include the popular Murretori (Dialect Market), which celebrates local dialects, a singalong evening, and new bands. Art Market 2013 ends on Sun 21st July with Humu-Folk, an open picnic event.

Families with children are spoiled with theatre performances: Animal Story by a local Paikkateatteri theatre at Kallamarina warehouse, Vaajasalo Wizard’s adventures at Alahovi Wine Farm a ferry ride away, Satuaarre puppet show in a pretty tent in the harbour park, and to cap it all a new chamber opera for children, THE SEAGULL AND THE FISHERMAN.

There are plenty of workshops at the Art Market. For example Horses are the inspiration behind cardboard racing horses and horse paintings. At the workshops, everyone will be able to participate.

The Art Market includes various exhibitions also: Still photographs of Aki Kaurismäki’s films are on display at Galley Kallamarina, a café-restaurant owned by Sakari Kuosmanen, a Finnish actor and singer. A raku clay sculpture PANOPTIKON and changing exhibitions are on display at KALLAMARINA WAREHOUSE.

Also at Kallamarina warehouse, a new summer shop will be opened. The selection includes interior design products, recycled jewellery, and kitchen textiles.

Recycled materials were also used by Kristiina Korpela in her environmental artwork TIILIPUUTARHA.
